Garrett & Kelly
A graduate of Le Cordon Bleu, over a decade in the industry, and lessons learned under some well-renowned chefs, Garrett has had a passion for making and eating bread for a long time. While he often prefers the behind-the-scenes approach to his work, he enjoys baking to bring comfort to others. Garrett believes that food should be good - and it should bring people together. Really good food can tell a story or travel you back to one of your own.
He enjoys his coffee black, and his favorite tea is our Jasmine Green, which is from our neighbors at Steep N' Clay!

Way before Kelly even touched a culinary school application, she was bringing in all kinds of treats for her high school friends and teachers. With a strong adoration for coffee and baking from her youth, unsurprisingly one of her first jobs was a coffee shop, where she was allowed to experiment with the syrups and invent different drinks from time to time. Years later, working at a chocolate lounge would become not only fond memories, but invaluable experience she would bring with her to her future. Kelly enjoys a cozy Earl Grey Tea Latte and firmly believes that yes, your hot chocolate can have whipped cream if you want it to - we've all been through a lot and that is not up for debate.

On April 27th of 2025, Garrett and Kelly got married in the bakery with a small party of some of their closest loved ones. The ultimate goal is to reside in Elgin for a very, very long time. Sugar & Rhyme Coffeehouse is more than just the realized dream café of a husband and wife, it is more than a passion project, it is a deep investment of time, heart & soul. During the earliest aughts of discussing the structure of the business, 3 core values were firmly established.
1.) To provide high quality products to the community
2.) To provide affordable products to the community
3.) To take care of and appreciate our staff
After officially tying the knot, later that year Sugar & Rhyme quietly launched its Community Bread Program, starting with weekly donations of fresh bread loaves to PADS of Elgin. The plan is to expand on this program and give back to the community in ways we know how, and right now we know we can bake good bread. If you don't believe us... can we interest you in a chocolate croissant?
Real food. From scratch and baked fresh every day.
